Killjoy Goes To Hell = WRAPPED!

I got home this morning at about 5:00am. The fourth installment of the KILLJOY franchise is officially wrapped.

Amazingly, we were able to complete this thing in 7 days! It's to the credit of the incredibly hard-working cast and crew that we were able to achieve such an aggressive schedule. And this one has more demons, more hellish clowns and more action than any of the other ones! Crazy.

I'm beat. Here are a few shots from the last days of shooting. Don't know the release schedule of this one (other than the fact that it'll be in every Red Box in the country), but I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything.

FALLING STILL shoot and another movie!

Yeah, like I said, I'm gonna try to keep blogging. And I'm determined to make the blog more interesting than my Facebook page, so this is where you're gonna get the real scoop along with photos and info that I won't be posting at the dreaded FB.

As I said in the last post, I've been lucky enough to keep pretty busy these days. I ran all over Southern California with a cameraman and a band to shoot a music video without the benefit of permits and insurance and location fees ... we went totally guerrilla-style and shot for two days in the deserts outside of LA, downtown's skid row, and the PCH. Now the footage is in the hands of my kick-ass editor ... hopefully I'll be posting the finished product in a few weeks. I wanna thank the band FALLING STILL for allowing me to direct another video for them. Here are a few shots from the shoot:

I'm in the middle of shooting the FOURTH Killjoy film, KILLJOY GOES TO HELL, right now in Los Angeles. Having a great time getting back together with the same creative team from PART 3 and really enjoying the fact that I'm at home shooting instead of having to fly to China to do it. Not that I didn't enjoy China, but I'm hap[pier to be able to go home to my wife and kids at the end of the day. We'll have this one in the can some time next week. In the meantime, here are a few shots from the first two days of shooting:

That's it for now. I'll try to come up with more work to blog about next week! Thanks for coming by!

Slacking on the Blog Updates ... Again.

… And, ah crap, here I find myself writing yet another apologetic blog entry about how hard it is for me to keep up with this blog. I mean, damn, it’s been three months since I updated the thing. I killed my Facebook page last December just so that I could dedicate time to this website instead but then the release of CHOP was imminent and I wanted to spread the word to a larger number of people and then, let’s face it, it’s way easier to throw up a link on the FB page than it is to make even a small blog entry.

But here I am again, attempting to breathe life into this blog while still dis-liking Facebook and Twitter (which I’ve also mostly ignored for the last few months as well) …

There’s a general reason for my lack of self-promotion these days, though, and it’s because I’ve been pretty busy.

Around the beginning of March I got a phone call that a director had been hired for the Lifetime Movie that I had written. Then I was told that it was none other than Courteney Cox. The next day I was at the Lifetime offices meeting Courteney for the first time … and I found out that we were already in pre-production and that the movie would start to shoot in six weeks. The following month was a whirlwind of meetings and re-writing as the cast and crew were hired. The cast started to fill in quickly and includes Garret Dillahunt from NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN and DEADWOOD and RAISING HOPE, Laura San Giacomo from JUST SHOOT ME, Ashley Hinshaw from CHRONICLE, and Courteney herself even took a small role.

It’s really amazing to me how quickly and efficiently the movie was put together. Even though it was her first feature film, Courteney was really on top of things and was incredible to work with … she really is a hard-working, down-to-Earth person with an honest-to-God vision. And she’s super-cool, to boot. Here are a few shots from the process:

The view from Courteney’s back yard in Malibu. Garret and Laura are chatting with Courteney in the background:

Courteney and I on the first day of shoot:

Another day on set. I’m chilling in video village while Courteney directs (on monitor):

I had the privilege of seeing a cut of the movie last night and I’m really happy with the way it turned out. The rest of you will get to see it when it premieres on the Lifetime Network on June 23rd, 2012 … that’s in a little bit over a month!

Like I said, I’m super-pleased with the way the movie turned out and would jump at the chance to do another movie with Lifetime … who knows, maybe it’ll happen some day. At the exact same time that TALHOTBLOND was shooting in Los Angeles, production started on the SyFy Channel movie that I wrote entitled HEEBIE JEEBIES.

I wasn’t really involved in the production of this movie the way that I was with TALHOTBLOND … as a matter of fact, I didn’t learn anything about it until it was in the can. It was shot in Louisiana and was directed by a talented DP that I’ve worked with before by the name of Tom Callaway … for those of you who watched PROJECT GREENLIGHT, you may recognize him as the DP of FEAST.

The movie also stars James Belushi’s son, Robert, character actor Michael Badalucco, Jennifer Rubin from NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS and BAD DREAMS, and - in the coolest casting news – Marion Ross! That’s right, “Mrs. C” from HAPPY DAYS is in my movie! Awesome sauce!

HEEBIE JEEBIES apparently premieres January 5th, 2013 according to the imdb. Hopefully I’ll have more updates on the film as the airdate approaches.

In the meantime, CHOP came out on Netflix Instant and has been pretty well received overall … the rating actually went UP as more people saw the film. It’s still on instant if you haven’t had a chance to see it yet … CHOP came out on DVD in Germany (and in BLu-Ray, too), but German censors cut almost 9 minutes out of it! It’s still pretty funny to hear in dubbed in German, though!

I signed UK and France deals for CHOP and right now it’s being actively sold at the Cannes Market from my international sales agents WTF Films:

AMERICAN MANIACS (aka FETCH) came out on iTunes and VOD a few weeks ago. I think that it comes out on DVD in July, but don’t quote me on that … what the hell do I know? I’m just the writer …

Last week I was in Joshua Tree, California acting in a movie called AMERICAN MUSCLE (from the Producers of A HORRIBLE WAY TO DIE and THE AGGRESSION SCALE). Really fun shoot for what I believe will be a really fun movie … lots of naked babes and gunfights and motorcycles and desert madness … think a white trash, desert-set MACHETE and you get the general idea … As I said, I had an awesome time and got to meet and work with some insanely cool and talented people like Nick Principe (CHROMESKULL himself), Todd Farmer (screenwriter of MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D, DRIVE ANGRY, and a fine actor in his own right), and screenwriter/actor John Fallon (creator/owner of ARROW IN THE HEAD). Don’t know what the release schedule is for this one (they wrap today), but I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, here are a few shots from set:

This week is all about prepping a music video that I’m going to direct on Thursday and Friday … more on that later, but it’s for the same band that I shot the last video for, FALLING STILL. For those of you who haven’t seen it, here’s the first video I directed for them:

I’ve got a few days off after the shoot and then I’m back in front of the camera on yet another feature. I’m not gonna say much about this one just yet … but I can tell you that I had to have my teeth cast last week in order to do the role:

More on this one next week once we start shooting, so stay tuned.

Next up, a movie that I wrote shoots here in Los Angeles in July. More on that one as the date gets closer …

So, to re-cap: two movies for network TV, two acting gigs, directing a music video. 2012 is keeping me busy and that’s the way I like it!
